Can you believe it – Meals Our Kids Love is one year old!?
One year ago and after several months of late nights and early mornings creating the website, we pushed the button and Meals Our Kids Love went live. Since then we’ve tried over a hundred recipes, made heaps of food and taken more photos than I can count; we’ve also seen one major redesign, met lots of lovely people and learned a lot along the way.
Our most popular recipe over the past year? This one – which I’ve always been slightly reluctant to call a recipe as it really is all about just popping a few simple ingredients in a blender. (You’ll also notice our photography wasn’t great back then either 🙂 ).
To celebrate our birthday and kickstart our second year with a bang, we have some exciting news and some new features on Meals Our Kids Love including the launch of our Ask the Expert panel, two lovely new contributors, nutritionist Fleur Key and our new “Queen of Cake”, Ketta Shimmin. And of course a delicious recipe – because we couldn’t let our birthday pass without a beautiful birthday cake.
Introducing our Ask the Expert Panel
The first of our exciting news is the launch of our Ask the Expert panel. It’s been a year-long goal at Meals Our Kids Love to have a place where professional dietitians, nutritionists and child feeding experts can answer your questions on everything from fussy eating to childhood food allergies, weaning to curbing junk food and all things in between.
So, I’m delighted to welcome to our panel: nutritionist Christine Bailey, clinical psychologists and food refusal experts, Dr Gillian Harris and Dr Elizabeth Shea, child feeding expert Dr Emma Haycraft, and paediatric dietitians Jo Rayner, Clare Thornton-Wood and Abigail Wilson.
Why not pop along to the Ask the Expert page where you can read all about our experts, see our most recent questions and if you have a question or concern about your child’s diet or eating habits, drop us a line and one of our experts will be on hand to answer.
Welcome Fleur and Ketta
I’m also delighted to welcome our two new contributors, nutritionist Fleur Key and Ketta Shimmin, founder of Flossie Pops Cakery.
Fleur is a registered nutritionist, working mum and blogger on her site The Packed Lunch Diaries. She also works within the schools catering services championing children’s awareness of healthy eating. Stay tuned for her upcoming article on How to Pack the Perfect Kids’ Lunchbox (so that you don’t end up with half of it coming home again!)
You may already know Ketta from the delicious Chocolate Easter Eggstravangza Cake she made for Meals our Kids Love last month. Ketta runs Flossie Pops Cakery, and when she isn’t baking bespoke cakes for birthdays, weddings and anniversaries she’s running cake-making and decorating workshops in her studio based in the beautiful Weald of Kent.
To help us celebrate our birthday she’s created this Traditional Vanilla Sponge Cake: soooo good but so simple (words we love), anyone can make it. A good vanilla sponge is one of those basics everyone should know how to make, but often times don’t. Ketta adds vanilla syrup to her cake for an extra special twist. Here’s the recipe.
Of course, I couldn’t let our one year anniversary pass without saying a big thank you to all our readers, followers, supporters and friends. Every positive comment, Facebook like and Twitter retweet is so appreciated – you’re all superstars. Do keep sharing our recipes, tips and advice and drop us a line to let us know what you think, what you’d like to see on Meals Our Kids Love or just to say Hi!
