You’ve got to love an oilcloth. That easy wipe-clean surface that makes light work of keeping the dinner table stain-free as well as protecting precious surfaces from the kids’ paint and glue projects, muddy dog paws and the occasional coffee spill.
Just a couple of years ago, when I did a Google search of oilcloths it turned up only a limited selection of dotted prints. Well, not any more. If you’re looking for oilcloth to make a table covering, cushions, bags, whatever it is – then you’re going to go just a little gaga at Only Oilcloths.
I was looking for a lovely modern design in a muted colour to cover a cushion in our hallway that the dogs seem to love jumping on every time we come back from a walk. Yes, there are the standard dot prints on the website, but there’s also a wide range of fashionable florals, modern designs, stripes, gingham and children’s patterns. If you can’t quite make up your mind, then you can request up to four free samples.
Only Oilcloths says it also does a range of matt finishes as well as the traditional high gloss finish we’re all used to seeing; sounds intriguing.
In the end I settled for the Pebbles Duckegg Gloss (second left) for my cushion. A 135 x 100cm rectangle cost £12.99 plus £3.76 postage (tracked by Royal Mail). Delivery was super-quick, no fuss and I am now looking at all the other lovely prints to see what else I can transform in our house.
